About This Training

The purpose of this training event is to provide California small water systems with tools necessary to safeguard assets and minimize risks to financial objectives. Many systems lack basic understanding of how to establish processes and procedures designed to improve the reliability of financial reporting and accountability to stakeholders, prevent loss of resources and public assets and achieve budget targets. This training will be presented to provide managers and governing bodies with basic knowledge and emphasize tools/resources available to understand how to develop adequate internal controls necessary to strengthen the water enterprise’s financial health.

Participants will learn:

  • Recognize what internal controls are and their importance to financial sustainability.
  • Understand the five key elements of internal control.
  • Evaluate where there may be gaps in internal controls duties.
  • Identify ways to incorporate separation of duties.

The recommended audience includes governing bodies, managers, accounting staff and operators.
