About This Training
The Revised Total Coliform Rule (RTCR) applies to all public drinking water systems and because of this rule, all water systems have to sample for coliform. If a water system does get a total coliform positive or even an E. coli positive sample, it pays off to know what to do ahead of time. Alternatively, coliform sampling incorrectly can lead to false positives that require potentially expensive and time consuming follow-up. Come learn in depth what you should be doing when collecting a coliform sampling from preparing your materials to filling out a chain of custody to following up on results.
Participants will learn:
Apply the RTCR to their water system based on system type, treatment, and population
Prevent coliform contamination in their water system
Collect a total coliform bacteria sample and associated required chlorine residual for accurate results
Complete required laboratory forms such as chain of custody (COC) and select appropriate certified laboratories
Conduct necessary follow up to positive total coliform samples including repeat samples, changes to monitoring frequency, and Level 1 & 2 Assessments
The recommended audience includes operators and managers
